Post-Secondary Mental
Health Initiative

The primary aim of the Post-Secondary Mental Health Initiative is to collaborate with post-secondary institutions across the province to protect and enhance the mental health and well-being of post-secondary students, staff and faculty.

The province of Manitoba has eight public colleges and universities, four private colleges and universities, and an additional 40 private vocational institutions with over 50 locations throughout the province.  

Post-Secondary Mental Health Initiative key goals and activities:

Support the creation of an Advisory Council at every post-secondary institution whose goal is to provide leadership in developing and implementing a mental health and wellness strategy that supports campus mental health and well-being

Promote the campus mental health and wellness strategy for students, staff, faculty and institutional stakeholders 

Build opportunities for greater mental health literacy through conversation, consultation, and education 

Support student-led initiatives by encouraging safe and evidence-based practices  

Create and support knowledge exchange for those working on campus mental health that: focuses on relationship building and collaboration; provides a mechanism to share key issues, problems and passions; and is a venue for sharing experiences, stories and tools that enhances knowledge exchange, innovation, professional development and research 

Coordinate and host learning events such as webinars and workshops;  onnecting with students, student unions, counselling wellness centres, student services professionals, athletics; and present locally, provincially and at national events on campus mental health issues, emerging trends and how to co-create solutions to provide greater campus engagement 

Strengthen government partnerships to increase funding in support of post-secondary mental health and wellness innovation, programs and initiatives
