CMHA Manitoba and Winnipeg is a world leader in the field of mental health innovation. From e-mental health services, to early childhood mental health promotion, to research-based pilot studies, we continue to collaborate with stakeholders across Canada and beyond to discover new innovative methods and test the latest approaches to protecting mental health.
CMHA Manitoba and Winnipeg is co-leading the development of Recovery Colleges in Canada. CMHA Recovery College and Well-Being Learning Centres are innovative learning environments where any Canadian with lived experience of mental health issues, peers, family members and mental health professionals work together to co-produce and co-deliver courses that support well-being and recovery.
We are actively involved in establishing and supporting international partnerships leading Recovery Colleges, co-production and well-being best practices. In the fall of 2019, CMHA co-hosted a knowledge exchange event in Washington, D.C. (International Innovations in Peer-led/Co-produced Recovery Education) through the International Initiative for Mental Health Leadership (IIMHL). CMHA had the opportunity to profile recovery education innovation from across our CMHA federation, share knowledge and expertise in leading and supporting system change and develop strategic international partnerships and collaborations.
CMHA Manitoba and Winnipeg, in partnership with CMHA National, has been advancing mental health within the public health sector. We work closely with the Canadian Public Health Association and Public Health Agency of Canada to advance embedding mental health promotion as a core competency of public health practitioners in order to enhance the mental health and well-being of the population.
CMHA Manitoba and Winnipeg is an active member of the International Union for Health Promotion and Education (IUHPE) and presented at the 23rdWorld Conference on Health Promotion in New Zealand on “Transforming Mental Health in Canada Through Equity and Reconciliation-Based Upstream Approach”.
CMHA’s key accomplishments in 2019 include the launch of a Recovery College Internal Toolkit and the establishment of a 50 member nationwide Recover College Community of Practice. There are 12 Recovery College/Well-Being Learning Centres now operated by CMHAs in Alberta, Manitoba and Ontario with many more in development.
CMHA Manitoba and Winnipeg is also co-leading the development of an international partnership with Implementing Recovery Through Organizational Change (IM-ROC) and planning a site visit with Dr. Julie Repper in early 2020. The focus will be on fidelity and evaluation, or the extent to which delivery of Recovery Colleges and Well-Being Learning Centres in Manitoba adhere to the program model originally developed in the United Kingdom.
