Our mental health and well-being is made up of our thoughts, feelings, and behavior.
It is the ability to enjoy life, feel good about ourselves and cope with everyday challenges.
Having a sense of meaning and purpose is also a part of our mental health.
Good mental health also includes having positive relationships, being part of a community and feeling a sense of belonging in the world.
Everyday life circumstances such as dealing with stress or grief can challenge our well-being, but there are many ways to cope with these challenges and bolster our mental health and well-being every day.
Your Mental Health
In this section you will find information on mental health, understanding mental illness, and finding help locally.
Supporting a Loved One
When someone you love has been diagnosed with a mental illness, you feel a mixture of emotions.
Stress
We all talk about stress, but we’re not always clear about what it is. Stress comes from both the good and the bad things that happen to us.
Postpartum depression
Bringing a new baby into the family can be challenging at the best of times, both physically and emotionally.
Mental Health and Smoking
Despite the myths, smoking is not good for mental health. Reducing or quitting smoking can be hard on one’s mental health — at least in the short-term.
Grieving
Loss is one of life’s most stressful events. It takes time to heal, and everyone responds differently. We may need help to cope with the changes in our lives.
Feeling angry
We all feel angry sometimes. Most of the time, we can deal with feelings of anger or irritability quickly. We may resolve the situation or look at the problem from a different perspective.

Understanding Mental Illness
From time to time, we all experience challenges with our mental health and well-being.
Some people may experience changes in their mood, thinking or behavior as a result of a mental illness. They may struggle with a low mood, feel anxious or overwhelmed, and have difficulty problem-solving or understanding things clearly.
Relationships and social interactions may also be impacted. When these kinds of changes get in the way of our everyday activities such as work, family or school, it’s important to reach out for help and support.
Youth and Self-Injury
People cope with difficult thoughts, feelings, or situations in different ways. Some people cope by injuring themselves on — and it may be the only way for them to feel better.
Schizophrenia
Schizophrenia is a serious mental illness. One of the biggest myths around the illness is that it isn’t treatable.
Preventing Suicide
Suicide. It’s a difficult topic to bring up. However, when someone talks about suicide or brings up concern for a loved one, its important to take action and seek help quickly.
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
Frightening situations happen to everyone at some point. People can react in many different ways: they might feel nervous, have a hard time sleeping well, or go over the details of the situation in their mind.
Phobias and Panic Disorders
Everyone feels scared at times. But sometimes, fear can come up in a situation that isn’t expected. This fear stops us from going about our usual routines or working towards our goals
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
Many of us have small habits that make us feel better, but we can also live without them. For example, we might think of something as ‘lucky’ or have a routine that feels comforting.
